Discussed our Occupy National Gathering visioning experiences. The advantages and disadvantages of top-down v. bottoms-up visioning. Hanging out with the VVAW, how a world with no war could be. How would we go about doing that? What about all the jobs we’d lose making and selling weapons? We’d have to replace the jobs. Or throw the model out.
Some functions lend themselves well to government planning and control, and we have them reversed now.
Now we’re entrenched in the “40-hour” week. Who really works only 40 hours a week these days? White collar wage slaves work on the aver 60 hours a week, because they’re so in fear for their jobs. We’re losing the gains from unionization. Union workers working without contracts, because of fear. It works for the managers, and productivity soars!
I was working making batteries, Johnson Controls in Middletown, and it was bad, I couldn’t pass their lead tests, and I needed the job so I had to hide the lead detector. There was no ventilation. Delaware has next to no OSHA or environmental controls.
Why don’t we just go to 3-day work weeks? Productivity is off the charts now. That will continue. What will we do with all the people who need to work and there are no jobs for? Like a dachsund with unlimited food in front of it eats until it dies. We’re seeing the early stages of that. This will self-correct in the long term, but the unmanaged correction will be brutal.
Part of being human is managing the natural cycles, consequences. We’re our own predator, that’s why we’re having more wars. And migrate north, another way to adapt.
We talked about Delaware politics. And Monopoly, the game.
