Command tent, we contacted VVAW/OSS about getting it back and doing something together with it, Bill said ok. We’ll follow up with a date to drop it off. Invite them for August 5.
We have the Move-Your-Money brochures to hand out.
The Meet-the-Mayorial-Candidates meeting in the West Side may be cancelled, but we’ll confirm. There’s a meet-the-mayor meeting every week somewhere, just check the paper. We could attend as a group and speak out.
We have people going to the Marley festival on the Riverfront handing out pamphlets. Green Party has a table.
Feeding the Violence system with violence. Why would crunching their heads back change anything? They use their bikes as weapons. Put me in jail I need to eat! I need medical care! So many stories where people just give up. Work all their lives and can’t afford to live. When I was in jail I heard a lot of girls say being there was a break away from their lives, better food, safety, air conditioning.
Correction Corporation of America, prisoners as a commodity, 20 year management contract, prisons all across the country. Prison is one of the few growth industries left in this country. Re-instating slavery. They have to keep their prisons at 90% occupancy, so once you’re in the system you can’t get out. People arrested on new drug laws to fill up the prisons.
Abolish the Prison Industrial Complex. Universally supported at the National Gathering.
The bail industry is part of the PIC. Privatizing it subsidizes for-profit industries with tax money. Delaware prisons are state owned. Commissary business is also big business in the PIC. Delaware is 3rd in per-capita incarceration rate.
Plan an action around Move-Your-Money. We have the great brochure now. Organize regular events around it. We could leaflet. The Earth Quakers Action Team [] out of Philadelphia,, focusing on the fact that PNC, the 3rd largest bank in the country, is one of the major funders for the coal companies doing mountain-top removal, actions to move money out of PNC, drawing attention to their investing to try to get PNC to green their investing. So while we’re advocating MYM from the mega, tbtf banks, we could bring attention to the banks that are investing in destroying the environment. BoA is number one in that. People want to know reasons to move their money. The media should be provided with reasons for them to publish.
Sierra Club Delaware has been showing The Last Mountain, looking for venues to show it. There are a couple showings at UD planned.
We could organize a Move-Your-Money accounts-closing at PNC, with EQAT [http://eqat.wordpress.com/]. We could join an action in Philadelphia. Create a dossier of the environmental destruction the banks fund. “If your money’s at PNC you’re funding mountaintop removal. If your money’s at BoA you’re funding…”
We’re stamping our bills, “Corporations are not people, money is not free speech.” That’s freedom of speech!
