Meeting start: 1920 hr

10-MINUTE DISCUSSION

1) Local products give-away, accepting donations. (Finances, raising money.)

(We’re doing a veggie/fruit givaway Sep. 21, and start it up again in the Spring. Drop donations off on the 20th at Norris’s.)

2) Group trip to NY for Sep. 17, S17 and/or Oct. 1

S17 (http://s17nyc.org/), Monday. We want to do an action here, too. S17 Delaware Caravan FB group (https://www.facebook.com/events/261003287351735/). The actions start on the 15th. On the 17th they start at 7 am and go into the night. The caravan would leave from Dover-area around 3 am.

NJ Transit may be a better way to go. $15 round-trip, sans parking. Bolt Bus would get us there around 9 am…There’s a curbside pickup from 4th St. in Wilmington. May go to Penn Station.

Could join up with Philly.

Oct. 1 is also Occupy DC’s anniversary and they’ve invited us down to celebrate together.

REPORT-BACKS

The Money Talks Everybody Else Walks Committee

Met with Rep. Carney, as an individual, and talked with him about Return to Prudent Banking. Mentioned that this is an ODE issue. He and Markell, Coons, Carper, Democrats have the idea that Dodd-Frank will cure all the problems. This is wrong. Many prominent Americans agree with us, Reich, Angelides, Warren, Weill are all saying the banking system is broken and Return to Prudent Banking should be instated. Carney said he’s sympathetic to ODE, jealous we caroled Coons and not him. He made some recommendations: ODE solve education, single-parent homes, crimes on the streets, unemployment. There will be a debate at the JCC Sep. 13, 7 pm (http://www.siegeljcc.org/), including third parties. Carper may even appear! (We’ll do a press release announcing Carney has solicited our help in solving these problems.)

Actions

Loretta Walsh literature distribution, ODE supported her with this in Compton Towers and Triangle neighborhood, fellowship with other volunteers.

We walked in the Labor Day parade, in the torrential rain. The hard-core were there. And actually several politicians. Kovack, Carney, Carper, Coons, Spencer, etc.

Attended the CBTU meeting, had a full agenda.

Went to the Made In America Festival Sunday night in Philly, representing Occupy. Discussion afterwards with people who think Occupy is people who don’t want to work and are lazy, and since he makes $100,000 a year he’s of the 1%. I explained what Occupy is, he was surprised I would hang out with him. And Pearl Jam rocked.

Candidate Meet-Greet

I participated in the 2nd District City Council candidate (Trippi Congo, Kathleen Patterson and here) meet-greet, several other local candidates also participated. Sustainability is terrifyingly off their radar. I alerted some of our representatives about sustainability, Transition Town Initiative, Wilmington in Transition, and also gave them a heads-up about upcoming GA-candidate-meet-greets organized by ODE.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are organizing sponsoring a meet-greet/debate. To be discussed further in the Action committee meeting after the GA.

Veggie/Fruit Give Away Sep. 21, drop donations off at Terry Apts, Thurs, the 20th. 5pm-7pm, 2400 Broom St. The give-away on the 21st, 10th and King, noon. Volunteers be there at noon. This will be the last one until Spring, so clean out your gardens!

Possible proposal: Kris is State Director for Unite Women of DE (http://unitewomen.org/)…. FB (https://www.facebook.com/groups/UniteWomenDelaware/permalink/349948728426787/). and we’d like to ally with ODE, and announce it officially. At a the next GA this will be a proposal.

Next week I’ll have a proposal to deal with the quorum problem. We need to be able to vote on things without having a quorum. Something to the effect of suspending the quorum requirement on a case-by-case basis.  If the quorum hasn’t been met for 2 GAs in a row, then suspend the quorum requirement.

Let’s have a quorum next week to vote on these two issues!

Saturday, 10am-Noon, bank action, at Wells Fargo in New Castle, on Route 13. Afterward we’ll be going to the Delaware Pride Festival, in New Castle, just down the road. ($5 admission.) Saturday, Sep. 8. The Green Party of Delaware will also be there.

Sat, Sep 15, Silverside Church Green Fair, about sustainable food. Beekeeping, vermiculture, composting, Mike McGrath You Bet Your Garden, Wilmington In Transition will be there. 10am-2pm.

We’re keeping the calendar up to date!

Action meeting after the GA!

Meeting adjourned: 2023 hr.
